The meeting between Myanmar’s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and the Chairman of the Energy Farm International Foundation (EFIF) Dr. Pachauri took place Friday 25th of August in the capital Nay Pyi Taw.

EFIF’s plans to establish the Energy Farm in Myanmar was discussed in the meeting, and the project was put forth as an example of how to use local resources to electrify rural areas. The Norwegian telecom company Telenor is also involved in the project, with the aim to provide renewable energy solutions to their many telecom towers.

A separate meeting was also held with the Director General of the Forest Department and the Director General of their Forest Research Institute (FRI). FRI owns and runs the forest research station in Yedashe where the Energy Farm is planned to be located. They were also present at the meeting with the Minister and his Ministry after my meeting with the State Counsellor.

The discussions were positive and the project also received the support from the political leadership in Myanmar’s Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry, according to Dr. Pachauri.
