WHAT IS EFIF?
The Energy Farm International Foundation was established 11th of August, 2014 by TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute in India) and The Energy Farm in Norway. You can learn more about TERI and The Energy Farm in Norway at their respective web sites.
WHAT IS AN ENERGY FARM?
The energy farms build on the locally available natural resources, often residues from agriculture or energy crops, to generate heating, cooling and power effectively and sustainably. Relevant technologies include biogas, syngas, solid and liquid bioenergy, solar thermal and solar PV. The combination of solar and bio reduces the need for batteries and increases the value of local resources that would otherwise be wasted, or used ineffectively. The figure below illustrates the Energy Farm concept in more detail.
WHAT IS OUR AIM?
EFIF aims to establish an international chain of energy farm centers worldwide. These energy farm centers will produce and use renewable energy with emphasis on modern solar- and bioenergy technology. Additionally, the centers prioritize spreading knowledge and educate on how to make us of small and medium scale renewable energy solutions. In other words, the energy farms worldwide function as regional centers for education and a marketplace for sustainable energy technologies, contributing to a reduced need of fossil fuels.
EFIF cooperates with distinguished knowledge institutions and communities across the world to increase value and development in local communities and promote climate and environmental friendly attitudes.
The chain of energy farm centers contribute to local capacity building and facilitate for local entrepreneurs and businesses. TERI has long experience with economically sustainable models in rural regions without access to electricity, e.g. the “Lightning A Billion Lives”-project.
WHAT IS OUR VISION?
The Foundation wants to be a pioneer in providing technologically advanced decentralized renewable energy solutions to rural communities globally.
We want to achieve this by implementing an environmentally and economically sustainable model that will help provide clean energy to the 3 billion people who are dependent on ineffective wood/coal combustion for heating and cooking, and the 1.2 billion people in rural communities who still lack access to electricity.
WHAT IS OUT METHOD?
EFIF's method builds on three principles:
-
TO BE A KNOWLEDGE PLACE: FROM KNOW-HOW TO SHOW-HOW
-
Learning: Local capacity building
-
Training: Show-how and exchange of experience
-
Knowledge transfer from other EFIF centers
-
-
TO BE A MARKET PLACE
-
Equipment display - demonstration
-
Production, use and delivery of renewable energy
-
-
TO BE A MEETING PLACE
-
Local, regional and national
-
Stakeholders/producers of equipment
-
Information and outreach
